Hi! My name’s Karen, and I’ve got the incredible luck of being a first-generation American, with Ecuadorian roots. As a former tech company employee, it was jaw-dropping to discover that organizations invested so many resources on uncovering Latino consumer trends and insights that were simply common sense to me. As a marketer, I like to say I get the best of both worlds, living at the intersection of Hispanic and American culture.

Considering this trend, for marketers to capture the attention of the Hispanic Millennial and Gen Z consumers, one might want to note that although younger Hispanics might speak Spanish in the home, English dominates conversations with peers. Also, for Hispanics across all generations, especially those who are older, generally prefer marketing that reflects their culture. 3. The Latinx/Hispanic Community is not a monolith. There is no greater example of this fact than Latino voting trends during the 2020 Presidential Election. U.S. Hispanics speak several regional variations of Spanish and integrate traditions from their home countries of origin that influence their decisions such as political alignment, buying habits, and religious preferences. So, in order to market successfully to Hispanics, you must take into consideration their country of origin. The top 2 places of origin for U.S Latinos are Mexico and Puerto Rico. Selling e-commerce product via Facebook Live Online selling and merchandising via Facebook Live videos is on the rise, and this is an emerging trend in the Latino U.S. market as well - especially with the subset of Hispanic women. Organizations selling consumer products and accessories like handbags, makeup, jewelry could experiment partnering with Facebook Live influencers to promote their products in front of their audience which is ready to buy. 2. Partnering with Tiktok influencers Today’s Latinx TikTok influencers provide a way to connect with Hispanic audiences that brands are seeking to penetrate. What were the best hispanic marketing campaigns of 2020?


One of the most influential hispanic marketing campaigns of 2020 in the U.S. was orchestrated by McDonald’s. From October 5th to November 1st 2020, McDonald’s partnered with Latin music superstar, J Balvin to promote the “J Balvin meal” which customers could order at any McDonald’s. According to SensorTower, McDonald’s chose to promote most heavily to the artist’s Spanish-speaking audience, and both of their most effective creatives on YouTube were almost entirely in Spanish. Both ad segments saw approximately 20 million impressions each. The Results? Both app installs and daily active users (DAU) remained well above the levels seen in August 2020. Average U.S. DAU during the J Balvin promotion were up 23 percent compared to August 2020, nearly matching the 26 percent growth in average DAU seen during the Travis Scott promotion compared to the same month.
