How to grab people’s attention if you have no personal brand.

how to grab people's attention if you have no personal brand

Your network is your net worth. Your personal brand is your living resume. Blah. Blah. Blah.

Ok, so even if it’s clear that building a personal brand is important, we all know that building one takes time, dedication, and consistency. If you’re reading this, you most likely haven’t hit your desired reach with your personal brand yet, (and it’s ok, nobody said it would a be a quick thing to happen.)

So until you’ve built your desired audience, how on earth is it possible to grab people’s attention, when you have so little of it to begin with?

Here’s a dirty little secret: You don’t need 1 million followers to have attention, you earn someone’s undivided attention when you either provide them with knowledge, entertainment, motivation, or create some kind of lasting impression.

Fair enough, so how do I make a lasting impression? Just follow these 3 simple steps.

#1) Reach out to people

Whether you’re a door-to-door salesperson, or an aspiring viral YouTuber, you need to be introducing yourself to new people EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. If you don’t have much of a personal brand, you need to be making the first move, instead of waiting for people to come to you.

This means something different for everyone. It could mean sending cold emails, or taking to potential prospects in grocery store parking lots, or religiously sending direct messages people on Instagram.

#2) Build connections

Assuming the way you approach people isn’t too spammy or salesy, your next task is to build connections and trust with the people you reach out to. This means that before you tell people about your life-changing product, service, or opportunity…you need to make them feel like you genuinely care about whatever it is they want to talk about.

Only after you do that, you can start building connections and trust with people.

#3) Put out content that they would actually take the time to consume

After you reach out and build connections with people, the final step is to put the right content on the right platforms for them to consume. Whether it’s video, a podcast, or a written blog, it’s up to you to figure out what content they’re most likely to engage with. (This way you’ll capture and hold on to their ATTENTION…no matter if you have a solidified personal brand or not.)

#4) Rinse and Repeat

It’s super easy to follow these steps when you’re motivated and in your zone. But, just as with any other habit, the key is to repeat these steps even on the days when you don’t feel like executing.

A word of advice: If this was rocket science, half the people with personal brands wouldn’t have personal brands. We’ve all heard it, but consistency is key here.
